1Life: Helpline Volunteer
1 Life Suicide Prevention Helpline - is a confidential professional 24 hour National Helpline Service headquarters located in Dublin.
The 1 Life helpline also operates from offices in Kildare, Galway, Wexford, Cork and Limerick, so volunteers across the country can become involved. The 1Life Helpline is dedicated to providing professional counselling, support, advice and referral service for people who may be feeling suicidal, engaging in self-harm or bereaved through suicide on a 24 hour, 7 day a week basis. Volunteers work alongside a team of trained counsellors and therapists all of whom receive helpline training, supervision and operate to a Code of Ethics and be guided by relevant policies and procedures as exist with the organisation.
Criteria
Volunteers applying for the position of Helpline Volunteer will undergo Garda vetting and receive comprehensive training from 1Life.
Applicants should have the following;
- A personal, academic or professional interest/experience in suicide prevention.
- Experience in helpline counselling or a similar care-giving role.
Applications are particularly welcome from those who;
- Hold a Diploma (or equivalent) in counselling or psychotherapy.
- Are accredited/pre-accredited in the field of counselling or psychotherapy.
- Have relevant counselling experience.
After comprehensive training, new volunteers will be asked to commit to taking a weekly four hour shift, and give a minimum of one years service to 1Life. For further information or to apply, email volunteer@1life.ie or contact the 1Life administration office on 01 7044014.
